The Wellsboro Varsity boys basketball team improved to 5-0 on the season as they dropped Towanda, 57-40.

The Hornet defense came to play as they limited the Black Knights to only 10 points in the first half. In addition to their defense, Wellsboro also had their young players step up. Sophomore Michael Pietropola led the team with 20 points and Junior Dylan Prough added 13 points and 8 rebounds.

Pietropola, who normally comes off the bench, filled in for Junior Joey Doganiero in the starting lineup.

"We played played very good last night as a team, we communicated and worked as one unit on the floor," said Pietropola. "I knew since Joey was gone I needed to step up big.

"My shot has been off lately but I got it back on track last night," concluded Pietropola.

Rounding out the scoring for the Hornets were Sophomore Kieron Smethers with 9 (9 rebounds), Senior Jordan Jackson with 7 to go with his 5 rebounds and 6 assists, Senior Matt Reese with 5 points (5 assists), and Freshman Dawson Prough with 3.
