The Wellsboro Varsity girls basketball team started the 2013 season at the Muncy Rotary Tournament, taking home 3rd place.

The girls started the day off with a 62-25 loss to tournament host Muncy. The Lady Indians aggressive defense stopped Wellsboro from getting on track, jumped out to an early 21-3 first quarter lead, and held them to 20% shooting from the field to take home the win in the opening round.

Sophomore Sarah Ingerick led Wellsboro with 11 and Sophomore Jada Jackson had seven, Junior Peyton Wilson had three points and Junior Lauren Bleggi and Sophomore Jenny Young had two points each.

In the consolation game the Lady Hornets took on Northwest Area. The girls looked like a different team later in the evening, as they held on for a 41-31 victory. Earlier in the day, Northwest lost to Hughesville by only 2 points.

Ingerick had a career-high 24 points and seven rebounds, Senior Brooke Kohler had six points and Jackson finished with four, while Wilson had three and Sophomore Raisa Rogers and Sophomore Alexa Singer had two each.

Junior Jordan Butters had six rebounds.

Ingerick and Jackson were also named to the All-Tournament team for their play.

"The girls played hard in both games, and it was good to end the day with a win," said first year head coach John Davis.

Following the tournament, the Lady Hornets start the season at 1-1. The team will start regualr season play on Wednesday, December 11 as they travel to Sayre.
