The Wellsboro Varsity girls basketball team scored 22 points in the first quarter and held on to defeat the Towanda Blank Knights, 38-32.

The team jumped out to a 22-5 lead after the first quarter, but cooled off after that as they only managed to score 16 points the rest of the game. Towanda cut the Lady Hornets' lead to 32-28 after the third quarter but couldn't get over the hump.

Sophomore Jada Jackson had 11 points, Sophomore Sarah Ingerick netted 10, Junior Jordan Butters scored nine, and Alexa Singer added eight.

In the J.V. game the Lady Horents won 34-21 for their sixth consecutive win and 10th of the season. Sophomore Raisa Rogers scored 10 points to lead the team.

With the win, the Varstiy team improves to 9-9 (4-2 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Thursday, January 30 as they host Athens.
