Hornets end skid, beat Williamson 54-47

The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team ended a two-game losing streak as they beat Williamson 54-47 on Wednesday, January 14.

The Hornets trailed 13-11 after the first quarter but outscored the Warriors 15-8 in the second quarter to take a 26-21 lead at halftime. Wellsboro and Williamson both scored 16 points in the third quarter, but the Hornets outscored Williamson 12-10 in the final frame to come away with the win.

Senior Michael Pietropola led the Hornets with 23 points, as he hit 10 shots from the floor and went 3-for-4 from the foul line, and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Pietropola now has 254 points for the season and 976 for his career. Senior Kieron Smethers was the only other Hornet in double-figures are he finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Rounding out the scoring on the night were Freshman Quinn Henry with seven points, Senior Jake Mitchell with four, and Sophomore Brandon Lamphier and Freshman Dalton Prough with two points each. Mitchell also added nine rebounds, Prough and Smethers each had three assists, and Smethers added a block and four steals.

The Hornets won the JV game 57-37 to improve to 7-4. Sophomore Jacob Singer led the team with 18 points, Prough had 15, and Henry scored 10.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 9-3 (3-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Friday, January 16 as they host Northeast Bradford.
