For the second straight year, the Wellsboro Boys Basketball team finished as the runner up in District IV AA playoffs, as they fell to Danville 52-39 on Saturday, February 27.
The Hornets were unable to handle Danville's pressure all night, as they turned the ball over 20 times on the night. Two early turnovers led to an early 5-0 Danville lead, but Wellsboro fought back behind 4 points from junior Alden Weiner and 3 from sophomore Dalton Prough to tie the game up 9-9 as the first quarter ended.
The second quarter belong entirely to Danville, as their full-court pressure caused 10 Hornet turnovers. Danville broke the game open as they outscored Wellsboro 15-3 in the period, with the Hornets' only points coming from junior Jacob Singer. Singer's three cut it to 16-12 before Danville finished the quarter on a 8-0 run to lead 24-12 at halftime.
Wellsboro continued to score the rest of the way as they were outscored 19-10 in the third to trail 43-22, thei largest deficit they faced all year. The Hornets managed to outscore Danville 17-9 in the fourth, but it was too little too late.
Dalton Prough led the Hornets with 16 points, Weiner finished with 8, and sophomore Collin Pietropola had 6. Singer and sophomore Nic Ingerick each scored 3, sophomore Quinn Henry finished with 2, and senior Dawson Prough added 1 point.
Weiner and Dalton Prough each had 6 rebounds in the game, and Dalton Prough had 2 assists and a blocked shot.
