Sophomore Dalton Prough had a game, season, and career-high 25 points as the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team cruised to a 64-24 victory over Towanda on Wednesday, January 6.
The Hornets didn't allow a point the entire first quarter and led 21-0. Prough scored 9 of his 25 points in the second quarter as Wellsboro outscored the Black Knights 16-11 to take a 37-11 halftime lead. The Hornets kept the pressure on in the second half as they only allowed 13 points while they scored 27 to take the NTL Division 1 win.
Prough finished with a double-double, his third of the year, with 10 rebounds and went 6-for-8 from the foul line. Sophomore Collin Pietropola was the next leading scorer with 9 points and seven rebounds, sophomore Quinn Henry had eight points, junior Jacob Singer finished with six and two blocked shots, and sophomore Nic Ingerick ended the night with five points off the bench.
Junior Alden Weiner and freshman Andrew Brelo each finished with three points, junior Brandon Lamphier chipped in two points, and freshman Brandyn Tuttle added a point.
The JV team improved to 10-0 under coach Chase Kriner with a 49-21 win. Tuttle led the team with 11, Ingerick added 10, and Brelo finished with 9.
The win ends the Varsity team's two-game losing streak and improves to 7-3 on the year. The win was also head coach Todd Outman's 110th career win. The team will be back in action on Friday, January 8 as they travel to Mansfield.
