The Wellsboro Middle School basketball teams picked up a pair of wins against Cowanesque Valley on Tuesday, February 14.

In the boys A game, Wellsboro won 30-15. The Hornets jumped out to an 11-5 first-quarter lead and held CV scoreless in the second quarter to lead 18-5 at halftime. Wellsboro outscored CV 12-10 in the second half to hang on for the win, their sixth of the year.

Joseph Grab led Wellsboro with 12 points, Isaac Keane scored 6, Darryn Callahan had 5, Will Poirier had 4, and Nevin DeCosta pitched in with 3. Zach Singer had 3 rebounds and Callahan and DeCosta both had 4 assists.

Wellsboro lost the B game 18-15. Aidan Coffee and Drew Manning both had 4 points.

In the girls game, Wellsboro hung on for a 27-22 win, their fourth of the year. The Lady Hornets held an 8-6 lead after the first and 12-10 at the half, then extended their lead to 23-15 at the end of the third before CV made things interesting in the fourth.

"We played a really good game at CV as a team," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We played solid team defense, had our lowest turnover total of the season, went 4-of-5 from the line, and made some plays on offense when we had to. I am really proud of all 12 of our girls."

Chelsie English had 10 points and 6 rebounds, Lindsey Marmara had 7 points, Jena Boyce had 6 points and 5 steals, Bailey Monks had 2 points and 10 rebounds, and Kiyah Boyce also had 2 points.

Both Wellsboro teams are back on the road at Northeast Bradford on Thursday, February 16.
