Hornets finish regular season with win over Towanda

The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team wrapped up their regular season with a 68-39 win over Towanda at home on Saturday, February 27.

"This win clinched us going undefeated at home this season which is a great reward for this team," head coach Steve Adams said. "The boys worked really hard and progressed nicely. We had a good regular season and are looking forward to playoffs. We are excited to host a game."

The Hornets went on a tear in the first half, outscoring the Black Knights 44-20, including going on a 27-8 run in the second half to roll to the win.

Three Hornets scored in double figures on the evening led by 18 points from sophomore Peyton McClure. Junior Liam Manning scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds for a double-double and junior Isaac Keane scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double of his own. Sophomore Conner Adams and freshman Hayes Campbell both added 6 points, junior Drew Manning chipped in 4 points, sophomore Cameron Brought finished with 3 points and junior Ryan Sweet pitched in with 2 points.

Adams and McClure recorded 5 assists each and Adams also added 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

In the JV game the Hornets won 48-35 to finish their season with a 14-3 record. Brought had 21 to lead the Hornets.

The Hornets finish the regular season with a 15-3 overall record, a 2nd place finish in the NTL Large School Division and will be the 4th seed in next week's PIAA District IV Class AAA playoffs.
