The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams each secured victories over North Penn-Liberty at home on Saturday, February 20.

In the boys game Wellsboro defeated North-Penn Liberty Saturday morning 31-22. The boys got off to a fast start on Saturday and led 23-10 at halftime. North-Penn Liberty outscored Wellsboro 12-8 in the second half, but were unable to catch the Hornets.

"It was a good team win today," said coach Kyle Smith. "It was nice to get off to a quick start and build a lead. It was challenging to establish a rhythm because we only played one game, but once again, we are really happy to be playing basketball!"

Micaiah Fitch led the hornets with 10 points, E.J. Keck scored 7, Mitchell Lechler added 6 points, Owen Stevens added 4 points, while Micah Vickery and Jonathan Carl added 2 points each.

In the girls game the Lady Hornets came home with a 28-21 win, their first of the season after not being able to play North Penn-Mansfield last weekend. Wellsboro held one points leads after each quarter: 5-4 after the 1st, 13-12 at halftime, and 19-18 after the 3rd before going on a 9-3 run to put some breathing room between them and the Lady Mounties.

Chloe Brandenburg scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Lady Hornets while Raegan Watkins-Bourret and scored 5 points and Mia Schoonover and Paige Logsdon added 2 points apiece.
