The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team opened the 2022-23 season by edging Montoursville 46-45 on the road on Monday, December 5.

"That was an excellent team win," head coach Steve Adams said. We got contributions from everyone who was on the floor. I thought Conner held his composure down the stretch  running the point which helped us get good looks. Caden and Peyton did a nice job handling the ball and Cameron and Hayes did a great job on the boards."

The game was tied 10-all after the opening quarter but the Hornets held a slim two-point advantage, 15-13, in the second to lead 25-23 at halftime. Montoursville outscored Wellsboro 11-7 in the 3rd, but the Hornets outscored the Warriors 14-11 down the stretch and held on for the one point win.

Senior Conner Adams led all scorers with 18 points while senior Peyton McClure added 13. Junior Hayes Campbell pitched in 8 points, junior Caden Smith had 5, and senior Cameron Brought added two points.

Campbell added 10 rebounds and 3 assists to his point total. Brought also grabbed 10 boards, Adams added 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals, McClure grabbed 3 rebounds and Smith dished out 3 assists.

Montoursville won the JV game 49-18. Freshman Aaron Kirk led the Hornets with 8 points.
