Towanda Edges Wellsboro With 4th Quarter Rally

An 8-4 run in the 4th quarter propelled Towanda over Wellsboro late as they held on for a 30-28 win over the Lady Hornets on Tuesday, December 19.

The Lady Knights took the lead late on a Brynn Woodruff three-pointer with just over two minutes left on the clock and held Wellsboro scoreless for the rest of the game.

Early on the Lady Hornets held a 10-6 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 17-12 at the intermission. Towanda made a push in the second half with a 10-point 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 24-22.

Woodruff led Towanda with 11 points and Mya Maynard added 9.

Senior Maddy Mascho led Wellsboro with 10 points, senior Emily Morris and junior Chloe Brandenburg added 8 points apiece and junior Paige Logsdon had 2 points. Logsdon pulled down 16 rebounds and Brandenburg hauled in 11. The duo also combined to block 5 shots. Morris also added 3 steals and Mascho made 2 assists.

The was no JV game.

Wellsboro falls to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the NTL Large School Division standings. The team is back in action against Coudersport on Thursday, December 28.
