Fourth Quarter Surge Leads Williamson Past Wellsboro

Junior Chloe Brandenburg scored a game-high 19 points, however the Wellsboro Lady Hornets fell 45-33 to Williamson in their first game after the Christmas break, on Wednesday, January 3.

The game was close early on until a 17-point 4th quarter by Williamson sealed the victory for the Lady Warriors.

Wellsboro trailed 8-5 after the opening quarter but outscored Williamson 10-8 in the 2nd to close the lead down to a point, 16-15, at halftime. Williamson slightly increased their lead to 5 points by outscoring the Lady Hornets 12-8 in the 3rd quarter before going on a 17-10 run in the final frame.

Brandenburg's 19 led all scorers on the night as she hit 5 three-point shots. Senior Maddy Mascho added 6 points, junior Paige Logsdon scored 4, all from the foul line, and seniors Hannah Gilmour and Emily Morris pitched in 2 points each.

Kenna Thomas led Williamson with 17 points and Taylor Rae Jones added 13.

The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the NTL Large School Division standings. The team is back in action Saturday evening at rival North Penn-Mansfield.
