Lady Hornets Suffer 2nd Straight Two-Point Loss, Fall To CV, 42-40

Cowanesque Valley defeated Wellsboro 42-40 to hand the Lady Hornets their second straight two-point loss in as many days Thursday night in Westfield.

Wellsboro led 11-8 after the opening quarter and 20-16 at halftime. Cowanesque began chipping away in the 3rd quarter as they outscored the Lady Hornets 10-8 to cut the lead down to 28-26 heading into the fourth quarter.

CV outscored Wellsboro 16-12 over the final eight minutes to hand the Lady Hornets their fourth consecutive loss.

"The team focus lately has been on winning small battles each night," coach Maureen Poirier said. "Being strong with the ball, getting on the floor, out hustling the opponent, and looking to the rim. Last night the girls played 4 full quarters of basketball at both ends of the court. The girls continue to improve and become more confident each game. This was our best game of the season against a talented team."

Senior Paige Logsdon led all scorers with 19 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double. She also blocked 5 shots. Senior Chloe Brandenburg finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals, and freshman Teagan Novinger added 6 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman Adelyn Frantz dished out 3 assists and blocked a shot and junior Lily Wagner made 6 assists and 2 steals.

Ashley Woodring and Ella Churchill scored 14 points each to lead Cowanesque Valley.

Wellsboro falls to 4-9 (2-8 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action tomorrow afternoon at North Penn-Liberty.
