Lady Mounties Edge Lady Hornets, 32-30

The North Penn-Liberty Lady Mounties edged the Wellsboro Lady Hornets 32-30 in and NTL cross-over game on Wednesday, January 21.

It is the Lady Hornets' 3rd loss in a row.

Wellsboro had a 6-1 lead early on as they held the Lady Mounties to zero shots from the floor. Kaylee Graham made 1-of-2 foul shots for Liberty for their only point.

North Penn-Liberty began slowly chipping away at the Lady Hornets lead, starting by outscoring them 8-7 in the 2nd to trail 13-9 at the half, however Wellsboro edged the Lady Mounties 10-6 in the 3rd quarter. The Lady Mounties then went on a 17-7 run in the 4th quarter to pull off the win.

"The girls played good team defense last night," head coach Maureen Poirier said. "We struggled offensively but were able to maintain the lead up until the last few minutes. In the end, we did not control the ball when NPL geared up the pressure in last quarter."

Haley Litzelman led all scorers with 13 points on the evening and Graham finished with 10 for the Lady Mounties.

Freshman Kate Bryant led Wellsboro with 10 points, senior Chloe Brandenburg added 9, senior Paige Logsdon finished with 6 points, and freshman Teagan Novinger chipped in 5.

There was no JV game.

Wellsboro falls to 4-8 (2-7 NTL Large School Division) following the loss. They return to the court this evening at Cowanesque Valley.
