Strong 2nd Half Pushes Montoursville Past Wellsboro

A 34-15 run over the second half of the game gave Montoursville a 66-38 non-league win over Wellsboro Saturday evening.

The Hornets found themselves trailing 18-12 after the 1st quarter and 32-23 at the half. Montoursville stretched the lead out to 48-32 after a 16-9 run in the 3rd before outscoring the Hornets 18-6 over the final eight minutes.

Turnovers doomed the Hornets in the loss. The team turned the ball over 18 times in the game.

Senior Luke Rothermel led Wellsboro with 17 points, including shooting 3-for-4 at the foul line. He also had 8 boards and 3 assists.

Junior Colin Fletcher finished with 6 points, senior Jonathan Carl added 4 points, sophomore Ransom Schultz chipped in 3 points, and senior Marek Mascho, junior Gideon Lawton, and sophomores Kody Enck and Griffin Morral all scored 2 points apiece. Carl also added 6 rebounds and blocked a shot along with Schultz.

Shea Ulmer led all scorers with 18 points, including five baskets from behind the three-point arch.

Wellsboro won the JV game 45-39 to improve to 6-0. Freshman Braylen Jessup (14), freshman James Doughtie (13) and Enck (12) led the team in the scorebook.

The loss in the Varsity game drops the Hornets to 3-3 (2-1 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action against rival North Penn-Mansfield on Tuesday evening for their annual Margaret (Peg) Berguson Memorial Trophy match up.
